Central Railway Completely Electrifies Broad Gauge Network, To Save Rs 1670 Cr Every Year

On Friday, the Central Railway said it has completely electrified its 3,825 km broad gauge network, thereby reducing its annual carbon footprint by 5.204 lakh tonnes. The 52-km Ausa Road-Latur Road length in Solapur division was the last unelectrified segment, and its electrification was completed on February 23, according to a release from the zonal railways along with their CSMT headquarters.

CR General Manager Naresh Lalwani said, “This step helps in saving Rs 1670 crores along with reducing the carbon footprint of 5.204 lakh tonnes every year. This will reduce the fuel bill and help us earn carbon credits. will help.”

Meanwhile, as a part of reforms in the railway network, the Indian transporter is working on getting more Vande Bharat trains back on track. The Ministry of Railways has a contract for the supply of seating systems and paneling for 22 Vande Bharat trains, with Tata Steel listed as one of its providers. The Ministry of Railways has set a target of producing 200 Vande Bharat trains in the next two years, besides aiming to run the first sleeper variant of Vande Bharat by the first quarter of 2024. Keeping this in mind a contract has been signed. With Tata Steel to speed up the production process.

Tata Steel will now produce seats for 22 Vande Bharat trains, ranging from first AC to three-tier coaches. The business for which the structures of panels, windows etc. are being made, has also been given the contract to make Linke Hoffmann Busch (LHB) coaches of the train.

As per the plan, the Railways awarded a contract for the production of train components to a multinational steel business for about Rs 145 crore, which should be completed in a year.
