GUWAHATI: Center has approved over Rs 1,536 crore for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Assam Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to help this worst pandemic-hit region out of crisis.
Giving this information, State Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patwari called upon the entrepreneurs to use local resources for value-added commercial production and assured full cooperation from the government.
“Due to the lockdown, MSMEs have been badly affected due to which many units have been closed and hence, there has been loss of employment and livelihood for the workers. union The government had announced the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan of Rs. 20 lakh crore stimulus package to revive and boost the MSME sector. Over Rs 1,536 crore have been sanctioned under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee (ECLG) scheme for MSMEs in Assam till May, 2021,” Patwari said in a webinar organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce on the occasion of ‘International MSME Day’. Reiterating the commitment of the State Government for economic development and employment generation through industrialization in Assam, the Minister said, “The State Government has Assam MSME (Facility of Establishment and Operation) Act, 2020 which exempts entrepreneurs from the lengthy processes of approval and inspection for setting up MSMEs in the state.
He encouraged the entrepreneurs to take initiatives for commercial processing of local resources like bamboo, agarwood, turmeric and ginger among other products for value added exports. Patowary said, “MSME is synonymous with the industrial scenario in a state like Assam. This is represented by the fact that there are 66,584 industries in Assam, of which 88 per cent are micro, 11.5 per cent small and medium industries. The GDP of Assam is Rs 4.09 lakh crore and the industry sector contributes 39 per cent to the state’s GDP.
KK Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, Department expressed hope that MSMEs will fully exploit the potential that a growing consumer market offers.
