Sitharaman stressed that there is a need to invest more resources and efforts on the part of Infosys to ensure delay in delivery of agreed services. The Chief Executive was also apprised about the difficulties being faced by the taxpayers and the problems arising due to delay in the functioning of the portal.

He demanded that the issues faced by the taxpayers on the present functionality of the e-filing portal should be resolved by the team by September 15, 2021.

Developed by Infosys Ltd, the new income tax e-filing portal ‘www.incometax.gov.in’ went live on June 7 but was not available till late evening on August 21 and 22. It came back after an “emergency maintenance” described by the technical chief.

Infosys MD Salil Parekh explained to the Finance Minister that he and his team are doing everything possible to ensure smooth functioning of the portal. He said that over 750 team members are working on the project and Infosys COO Praveen Rao is personally overseeing the project. He also ensured that Infosys is working expeditiously to ensure a mess-free experience for the taxpayers.

Significantly, this is the second time that Sitharaman has met the Infosys team on this issue. He had met Parekh and COO Pravin Rao on June 22.
