Center keen to resolve border dispute between Northeast states: Amit Shah

The Union Home Minister said that the NDA government has given top priority to connectivity of the Northeast.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the NDA government at the Center is keen to resolve border disputes between the northeastern states and make the region peaceful and developed.

Shah also expressed hope that the sector’s contribution to the GDP would be more than 20 per cent.

“The (Narendra) Modi government is moving ahead in the Northeast by giving importance to three things – resolving all disputes of the Northeast and making it a peaceful region, preserving and promoting languages, culture and creating awareness about it. of India and third, by making the Northeast a developed region and bringing its GDP contribution back to the pre-independence level,” Shah said.

Shah, who is on a two-day visit to the state from Saturday to inaugurate development projects, said the target would be achieved in a few years with the collective efforts of all concerned.

“A day will come when the sector’s contribution to GDP exceeds 20 per cent, there will be no trace of poverty, unemployment and unrest,” he said.

“When we used to say that we will connect all the North-East state capitals by rail and air, people in the opposition used to laugh at us,” he said.

The Modi government aims to connect all the state capitals of the region by rail, road and air before 2023-24, he said, adding that development can happen only when all connectivity is provided to this geographically remote region.

“What is happening here today should have been done many years ago. Today an inter-state bus terminal is being built here with the help of the Government of India and the Government of Meghalaya at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

He said that the bus terminus would also boost the economic activities of the area.

The Union Home Minister said that without connectivity, neither the security of this corner of the country can be ensured nor the golden age of this region can be brought back.

He said that if any region has the richest culture in the whole world, it is in the Northeast because many languages, cultures, musical instruments and distinct cultural identities have been preserved as its eight states have shared a common ground through exchanges. Tried to complement the other.

He said that the diversity of culture, language, music, dance, food and drink of this region is the gem of India and the responsibility of nurturing it lies with the whole of India and not just the Northeast.

The Union Minister said that the government has also made a lot of efforts so that the development and services reach the citizens through information technology.

He said that as far as Meghalaya is concerned, the Narendra Modi government has been doing the work of accelerating the pace of development since 2014.

Shah said the Meghalaya government has completed 67 projects worth about Rs 700 crore with central assistance and 38 more projects worth Rs 800 crore are in progress.

He said that the NDA government has also provided Rs 650 crore to the state to promote the production of jackfruit, mushroom, silk, milk and fish.

He said that earlier about six and a half lakh families of Meghalaya did not have bank accounts, but today every family can open a bank account under Jan-Dhan Yojana.

Shah said that now there is not a single house in Meghalaya which does not have a toilet while efforts are being made to provide tap water to 3.39 lakh houses.
