Celebrities-Backed Sports Live Streaming App Buzzer Shuts Down

San Francisco: Sports live-streaming app Buzzer, endorsed by Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, Naomi Osaka and other celebrities, has announced closure.

Founded in 2020, the platform raised $44 million in total investment to target Gen Z sports fans, reports Front Office Sports.

The sports startup signed rights deals to stream the NBA, WNBA, NHL, PGA Tour and ATP Tour.

“With a heavy heart, we are formally ceasing our operations,” the company said in a statement posted to Twitter. Despite our best efforts to continue manufacturing Buzzer, recent fundraising developments and market dynamics , have reported this result.”

Buzzer founder and CEO Bo Han was previously the director of live content at Twitter.

“Since our inception, Buzzer has aimed to re-imagine live sports consumption in partnership with rights holders, facilitate connections with Gen Z fans and bridge the generational gap in live viewership facing our industry. – first as a D2C mobile app, and more recently as a technology provider,” it further said.

Buzzer said that despite the difficulty of the moment, it is important to recognize the tireless, talented team that created and introduced a new way to watch live sports and reach hundreds of thousands of fans in the process.
