Celebration of teachers in Mysuru | Mysuru News – Times of India

MYSURU: District minister S T Somashekhar appreciated the teachers of the district, for not knocking on the doors of politicians, to recommend them for awards.
Speaking at the Teacher’s Day celebrations organised jointly by the district administration, ZP and department of public instruction, the minister promised to lead a teacher’s delegation to meet chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, during his visit to Mysuru on Tuesday, to apprise him to resolve the problems faced by teachers.
Former minister and MLA Tanveer Sait expressed his displeasure at the state government, for not taking any action regarding the allocation of separate grants for improving public schools across the state.
He said the Congress government had set up 257 Karnataka Public Schools across the state, to provide quality education, and to ensure that they teach classes in the English medium, and that such schools are upgraded, so that they are on par with private schools, but the BJP government has not yet taken measures to upgrade such schools, and increase their number, nor allocated separate grants for the purpose, since last three years, he said.
He also appealed to district minister to prevail upon state government to set right disparities in wages of headmasters, principals and teachers, by discussing the issue in the cabinet meeting.
He also wanted the government to give more powers to local bodies, to take up minor repair work, to ensure toilet and drinking water facilities in government-run schools, and to conduct Education Adalat compulsorily. Meanwhile, the National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (Nimhans) director Dr Pratima Murthy, called upon people to give importance to leading a meaningful life with values.
She was speaking after inaugurating the Teacher’s Day celebration organised by the University of Mysore, at Vignan Bhavan in the Manasangangothri campus in the city.
She said that people nowadays give importance to making money, considering it as one of the major factors of success in life, leaving less scope for values.
“People come under a lot of stress in the pursuit of money, pleasure and happiness in life, while neglecting their mental and physical health. People should learn the techniques of stress management,” she said.
As failures are stepping stones to success, she wanted people to overcome failures, and develop the virtues of dedication, hard work, determination and commitment, to taste success in life. Spiritual and mental balance with education will help overcome failures, she said.
University of Mysore vice-chancellor Prof G Hemantha Kumar highlighted the contributions of S Radhakrishnan and Rabindranath Tagore, who he said were great teachers in shaping the future citizens of the country, like doctors, engineering, lawyers, journalists, bureaucrats and technocrats in the country. He also wanted the teachers to provide guidance to the pupils, apart from imparting education to them.
