CEA: Economic survey likely to be single-volume this year – Times of India

New Delhi: economic survey There is likely to be only one stretch for 2021-22 due to absence of full time Chief Economic Adviser (NS) Officials indicated that the one-section will largely contain data for the fiscal year across all sectors and will not contain the policy prescriptions that are part of the main Volume-I.
current CEA Krishnamurthy Subramaniam He announced his plans to return to academia after his three-year term ends on December 7. Last month, the government began the search for a new CEA and the process is likely to be completed by January.
“We will not have a full-time CEA to take ownership of the Economic Survey. It will be a single-volume document,” said an official, who did not wish to be named. The CEA has to be present in Parliament to answer any questions regarding the Economic Survey.
At the beginning of NDA II’s tenure, the then Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram was credited with running the survey as Arvind Subramaniam did not take over as CEA.
The survey is a report card of the economy and section 1 has been used by successive CEAs to put forward reform ideas. Unlike in the past, some of the key reform initiatives mentioned in the survey were implemented by the government this year to help the economy recover faster from the devastating impact of the COVID pandemic.
Officials said Subramaniam will oversee some groundwork for the single-volume survey. Steps are being taken to soon appoint a new CEA as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to ensure a smooth transition. Subramaniam had launched several initiatives like Monthly Economic Report (MER), which need to be completed by the upcoming CEA.
The Economic Survey for 2020-21 had projected a reversal of GDP growth to 10.5% and made it clear that the economy would enter a V-shaped recovery.
