The CBI raids happened on the day Nitish Kumar-led grand alliance proved its majority in the Bihar assembly. The RJD is the largest party in the grand alliance.
It has been alleged that aspirants were given Railway jobs in return for land during Prasad’s tenure as railway minister. Prime properties in different cities were later taken over by several shell companies allegedly linked to Lalu’s family.
The CBI alleged that job aspirants either sold or gifted their land in Patna to Lalu’s immediate kin, while a private company controlled by the family was involved in transfer of immovable properties in the name of the family members.
The case was registered on May 18 against RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, and daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, in addition to 12 people who were given jobs in Railway zones of Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hajipur in 2008-09, the officials said.

Lalu Prasad’s close aide Bhola Yadav was arrested by the CBI last month. Today’s raids have targeted several high profile RJD leaders.

- CBI raids underway at 25 places in connection with land for job scam case at different places in Delhi, Haryana’s Gurugram and Bihar’s Patna, Katihar, and Madhubani.
- Ex-Bihar CM & RJD leader Rabri Devi said, “They’re scared. A new govt has been formed under leadership of Nitish Kumar. All parties, except BJP, are with us. We’ve the majority. We won’t be scared. This isn’t happening for the first time.”
- RJD MLC Sunil’s Singh’s Patna residence raided. “It is being done intentionally. There is no meaning to it. They are doing it thinking that out of fear, MLAs will come in their favor,” Sunil Singh said in his reaction.
- Raid at under-construction Urban Cubes mall in sector 71 of Gurugram, believed to being built by a firm owned by Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav,
- The central probing agency is also raiding the residence of former RJD MLC Subodh Roy in Patna.
