Foreign Contribution Regulation Act bribery case: CBI files charge sheet against Home Ministry officials.

New Delhi:

The CBI has filed a chargesheet against Home Ministry officials and others arrested for alleged bribery involved in clearing global donations to NGOs in violation of India’s foreign exchange law. Officials gave this information on Monday.

The central agency’s chargesheet, filed before a special court on Saturday, came within 60 days of the arrest on May 11, he said, adding that the probe was open to a suspected wider conspiracy.

He said the agency has not included the names of the two arrested accused in the chargesheet as the investigation is still on. The agency had on May 10 registered a case against 36 people, including seven officials of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIC, some middlemen and NGO representatives, on the complaint of the ministry.

Agency officials had said that it was alleged that several officials were involved in exchange of bribes to facilitate clearance of foreign donations to NGOs in alleged violation of FCRA rules.

On May 11, the CBI had raided 40 places across the country and arrested 14 people.
