CBI arrests 2 more in Bengal violence case, now total number 8 India News – Times of India

Kolkata : CBI On Monday, two people were arrested from Domjur, Howrah for throwing bombs at the houses of some. BJP “Breach of modesty” of supporters and female members of his family on 2 May.
With this, CBI’s total arrests in post-poll violence cases Bengal increased to eight. According to the allegations, soon after the declaration of the assembly election results, the workers of the ruling party targeted the workers of the opposition party in Rajib Palli of Domjur.
During the attack, cash and jewelery were looted while women were allegedly molested. The agency detained and questioned 13 people in connection with the case on Monday morning, following which two were formally arrested.
“The police had earlier arrested six persons who were later released on bail. If the CBI invokes any new section in the case, it will have to submit a prior notification in the court and seek approval,” said Trinamool’s Serampore MP Kalyan Banerjee.
Howrah BJP Member Umesh Rai countered this argument and said that the police have intentionally imposed bailable sections on the arrested persons.
The CBI, in a related development, has sent a letter to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking details of cases which could not be registered earlier.
There have been allegations that many cases, especially those involving atrocities against women, have not been registered because survivors are apprehensive of retaliation.
Based on the feedback received from the NHRC, the CBI may consider the possibility of registering these cases afresh.
