Casting director assaults 18-year-old aspiring actress; cracks open skull

Mumbai: In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through Mumbai, a 26-year-old individual claiming to be a “film editor and casting director” has been apprehended by the Mumbai police. The arrest comes in connection with the brutal assault on an 18-year-old girl who suffered multiple fractures to her skull after she resisted the accused’s advances. The chilling incident has taken a dramatic turn with the perpetrator’s attempt to flee, only to be apprehended in Gujarat’s Surat.

Desperate escape and apprehension

The accused, identified as Deepak Malakar, hailing from Bihar, was taken into custody after evading the authorities for three days. Following the disturbing attack on August 11, the accused fled from Mumbai, believing his victim to be deceased. His desperate escape led him to Surat, where he continued to remain on the run until his eventual capture.

Chilling tale of assault

The horrifying incident unfolded when the accused assaulted the victim, leaving her unconscious. Presuming her demise, the assailant fled the scene, claiming to be a “film editor and casting director.” However, the victim miraculously regained consciousness and managed to seek assistance, highlighting her incredible resilience.

After spending two days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the courageous victim, a first-year college student, is now on the path to recovery as she receives medical care in the hospital. The incident has left a scar on her physically and emotionally, emphasizing the need for justice and support.

Facebook leads to tragedy

The victim’s unfortunate connection with Malakar began on social media platform Facebook last year. Around two months prior to the assault, the accused proposed marriage to the victim, an offer that her parents accepted. Consequently, he resided in their 1-BHK apartment.

During his stay, Malakar attempted to initiate a physical relationship with the victim, who expressed her desire to complete her education and pursue a career in the Hindi film industry before considering marriage. This refusal reportedly enraged the accused, setting the stage for the shocking incident that followed.

A grisly attack

On August 11, the accused took the girl to a friend’s flat in Versova, where he attempted to sexually assault her. When met with resistance, he resorted to violence, striking her head against the wall and assaulting her until she lost consciousness. Fearing the worst, Malakar locked the flat and fled Mumbai.

However, fate had other plans. After an hour of unconsciousness, the victim regained her senses and cried out for help, alerting the neighbors who promptly intervened and contacted the police. Malakar’s desperate efforts to evade capture ultimately led to his arrest, as he was tracked down through ATM withdrawals in Surat.

Malakar booked under various IPC sections

Police have registered a case against Malakar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 (attempt to murder), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (outraging modesty), and 354 (D) (stalking). The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding the rights and safety of individuals, especially in the face of violence and exploitation.
