Defining the national selfhood in its annual report, the RSS has mentioned that Hindutva and Sangh (RSS) along with Bharat are “the manifestations of the national-selfhood” and any attempt to tarnish their image would be equal to damaging the national self

Congress’s caste census demand, Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Sanatan Dharma remark and the campaign called ‘Cutting South’ by the Left leaders are efforts “aimed at disunity of the nation through distorted narratives”, the RSS has mentioned in its annual report, without naming any political party.

“The forces that are inimical to anything that is Bharat, Hindutva or Sangh, are ever active in search of newer plans and designs to disrupt or denigrate these three. The frequent rising of the bogie such as ‘Sanatan Dharma is the cause for all ills of our nation’, or the separatist issue of Cutting South, or the play of politics in the sensitive matter of caste census – all these are aimed at disunity of the nation through distorted narratives,” the RSS said in a chapter titled ‘National Scene’ in its annual report published on Sunday.

Defining the national selfhood in its annual report, the RSS has mentioned that Hindutva and Sangh (RSS) along with Bharat are “the manifestations of the national-selfhood” and any attempt to tarnish their image would be equal to damaging the national self.

“Bharat, Hindutva and Sangh are the manifestations of the national-selfhood. Tarnishing them amounts to damaging this national self; strengthening them means promoting the national self,” it said.

Manipur, Mevat and Sandeshkhali

Analysing the recent series of events and incidents, including the ethnic strife in Manipur, riots in Haryana’s Nuh, and the allegations of sexual assault in Bengal’s Sandeshkhali, the RSS has documented its comments and reactions to the specific incidents in the report.

The riots in Nuh, it said, erupted after a section of Muslims attacked the VHP yatra. “In Nuh in Mevat area, where a section of Muslim community violently attacked the VHP yatra and helped spread violence… The social tension prevailed for months and the issue is not settled.”

About the ethnic strife in Manipur, the RSS report said: “Situation in Manipur has created mistrust between the two sections of the society – Meitei and Kuki – causing deep wounds. It is unfortunate that the border state is undergoing a deep… inexplicable pain and the psychological division of society is dangerous.”

It added that in both Mevat and Manipur, “Sangh Karyakartas, on the basis of their communication with relevant people, have tried to save the situation, strengthen the society by morale boosting and create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation and coexistence.”

The RSS expressed its concern over the “separatist terrorism” rising its head in Punjab. It also mentioned that the farmers agitation helped spread “anarchy” in the region. “The separatist terrorism in Punjab has raised its ugly head. Under the pretext of farmers agitation, especially in Punjab, attempts have been restarted to spread anarchy, just two months before the Lok Sabha elections,” it stated.

Speaking about the Sandeshkhali incidents, the RSS held the West Bengal government responsible for “saving guilty persons”. In the report, it further added: “The incidents of atrocities on hundreds of mothers and sisters, especially of the Scheduled Caste and Tribe community, in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal, has shaken the conscience of the entire society. It cannot be imagined that such incidents have been going on for years in any part of independent Bharat. But what is even more abominable is that instead of giving the harshest punishment to the guilty persons, the government there made efforts to save them.”
