Viprahit Brahmin Sadan was constructed in a sprawling 9-acre campus at a cost of Rs 12 crores. The government has envisioned it as a center for conducting spiritual, religious and Vedic activities.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly criticized the inauguration of the Viprahit Brahmin Sadan at Gopanapalli in Telangana by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. During the inauguration on Wednesday, the CM said that Telangana is the only state in the country to dedicate a building to the Brahmin community.

Talking to News18, BJP’s state spokesperson NV Subhash said that KCR remembers the building of caste, religion and self-respect only during elections. He asked the CM why there was a need to bring Brahmins from neighboring states and not from Telangana for the puja programs related to the inauguration.

During the programme, the Chief Minister said: “Many Brahmins are poor. The government felt it was its responsibility to support them. The Telangana Brahmin Welfare Council was formed in 2017. We allocated Rs 100 crore to the Brahmin Parishad every year. Various welfare schemes are being implemented from these funds. So far, 780 students have been assisted through Vivekananda Scholarship to study abroad.”

However, the BJP termed these measures as a political gimmick. KCR believes in ‘divide and rule’. They used the name of our former PM PV Narasimha Rao for their selfishness. Except for the ‘PV Narasimha Rao Centenary Celebrations’, no importance was given to the former PM by the CM. He is going to do the same thing with Brahmins,” said Subhash.

The BJP leader demanded that KCR should declare the number of promises made so far to Brahmins. He warned that if the Chief Minister is really serious about solving the problems of Brahmins, then he should solve them immediately, otherwise the Brahmin community will definitely teach him a lesson in the coming elections.

Viprahit Brahmin Sadan was constructed in a sprawling 9-acre campus at a cost of Rs 12 crores. The government has envisioned it as a center for conducting spiritual, religious and Vedic activities. The facility provides accommodation for visiting seers, priests and religious leaders from the state. The Kalyana Mandapam serves as a platform for free marriage of poor Brahmins. More such buildings are coming up in Khammam, Madhira and Bachupally areas.

Here are some of the measures announced for the welfare of Brahmins on Wednesday:

• Increasing the monthly stipend given by the Brahmin Parishad to Vedic scholars from Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000.

• The eligible age for receiving this allowance has been reduced from 75 years to 65 years.

• At present Dhoop Deepa Naivedyam scheme is applicable to 3,645 temples in the state. This will be extended to another 2,796 temples across the state.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi is reaching out to various castes and social groups as part of its election strategy. Earlier, it had launched the Dalit Bandhu scheme and named the new secretariat after Dr BR Ambedkar.
