Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with the Chief Ministers of all the states on the COVID-19 situation. PM Modi said that Omicron is spreading faster and more permeable than other forms. The Prime Minister also said that there is a need to be vigilant, but also ensure that panic does not arise.

PM Modi said during the meeting with the states, “Omicron is spreading faster than the previous variants… it is more permeable. Our health experts are assessing the situation. States on the COVID situation.”

To contain the spread of the virus, the prime minister said the “pre-emptive, proactive and collective approach” adopted by the central and state governments is the “win mantra” this time too.

PM Modi said that the Center allocated a package of Rs 23,000 crore to the states, which has been used by many states to strengthen their health infrastructure.

PM Modi said, “The package of Rs 23,000 crore allocated by the Center to the states has been well utilized by many states by strengthening their health infrastructure. The approach needs to be followed.”

Manipur Chief Minister Zoramthanga in a tweet said that he was in a video conference chaired by the Prime Minister to discuss issues related to the emerging situation of COVID-19 in the country.

“I sincerely appeal to everyone to follow the COVID appropriate behavior and help keep Covid-19 away,” he said.

The meeting was being held in view of the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the wake of the emergence of the Omicron type. The Prime Minister had on January 9 chaired a meeting through a video conference to review the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The PM had stressed on the need to ensure adequate health infrastructure at the district level.

India recorded 2,47,417 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The new cases reported on Thursday are almost 27 per cent higher than yesterday’s figures. On Wednesday, the country had seen 1,94,720 new COVID-19 cases.
