Calcutta High Court handed over 7 cases to CBI and NIA within 56 days. Two women from Malda, West Bengal had filed a petition in the High Court in the case of conversion, in which they accused some people of abducting their husbands and forcibly converting to Islam. In the hearing of this case today, the High Court has ordered CBI and NIA to investigate the matter.

What is the whole matter?
According to a petition filed by two women in the Calcutta High Court, their husbands were missing since November 24. When the women went to the police station to lodge a complaint, their complaint letter was torn. A man tearing the complaint letter said that their husbands have converted to Islam.

The victims allege that when they lodged a complaint with the SP office of the district but no action was taken.

Both brothers used to work for a party
The women who filed the petition said that their husbands had worked for a political party in the assembly elections, which lost the election. When her husband went missing, on 24 November 2021, she also lodged a complaint with Kaliachak and Mothabari police stations.

The public prosecutor said – both of them adopted Islam on their own volition
During the hearing in the High Court, advocate Mohammad Ghalib, who is fighting the case on behalf of the state, said that the husbands of both the women had left them due to family disputes. After moving from Malda, they started living in Pratappur. Both have refused to return to their homes. He has converted to Islam voluntarily by giving testimony under section 164.

Investigation handed over to CBI and NIA
Hearing the matter, Justice Rajasekhar Mantha handed over the investigation of the case to CBI and NIA. The High Court has also ordered the CBI and the NIA to probe allegations of forcible conversion as well as hoarding of arms, cross-border infiltration and counterfeit notes.
Along with this, the court has ordered the SP of the district to cooperate with the CBI and NIA in the matter.

The High Court had also ordered CBI and NIA to investigate the appointment of Ankita Adhikari, daughter of Minister of State for Education Paresh Chandra Adhikari, in the teacher recruitment case in the state. It was alleged that the job was not given to the one who got higher marks than the minister’s daughter in the recruitment examination. In this case, the Calcutta High Court has now canceled the reinstatement of Ankita Adhikari, daughter of the Education Minister, and has also asked to return the salary.

3. Birbhum Violence
Eight people were killed in the violence on the intervening night of March 23 in Birbhum’s Bagtui village. The name of the block chief of TMC came in this violence. On April 4, the High Court, after hearing this, gave the responsibility of investigation to the CBI. Mamta Banerjee welcomed the decision of the High Court with a stoic voice, but the very next day she alleged that the BJP wants to arrest our District President Anubrata Mandal through the CBI.

4. Bhadoo Sheikh Massacre
Violence erupted after the killing of TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh in Birbhum’s Bagtui. In such a situation, the High Court also gave the responsibility of investigating this matter to the CBI. CBI has so far arrested 4 people in Birbhum and Bhadu Sheikh murder case.

5. Murder of Congress Councilor
The High Court also snatched the investigation from the Bengal Police and handed it over to the CBI in the murder case of Congress Councilor Tapan Kandu in Jhalda, Purulia. Kandu’s wife had argued in the High Court that TMC leaders had a hand in this matter. In this case the investigation should be taken from the police.

6. Killing of Witness in Jhalda Case
The Calcutta High Court also handed over the investigation of the Niranjan Vaishnav murder case, the witness of Congress councilor murder in Jhalda, to the CBI. Actually, the hanging body of Niranjan, an eyewitness of Kandu murder case, was found. The police considered it a suicide.
7. Nadia Gangrape Case
One case was from Hanskhali in Nadia district. Here TMC leaders are accused of gang-raping a minor for three days. The High Court had handed over the investigation of this case to the CBI. Mamta Banerjee has also raised questions on this incident.
