Kochi:

An 18-year-old boy has been booked for allegedly entering the naval base in Kochi without proper defense identity card soon after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Cochin port on Friday, police said.

“The naval base officials told us that an 18-year-old boy had infiltrated the naval base around 9 pm. They handed him over with their report,” Harbor Police told PTI.

Mr Singh arrived at the Ernakulam wharf in Kochi port on June 25 to review the construction progress of India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier.

Meanwhile, defense officials said a teenage boy tried to enter the naval base through the gate without proper defense identity card.

The Navy said, “The guard on duty apprehended him and handed over to his superior. After preliminary investigation by the Naval Police and ascertaining the facts, the boy was handed over to the Harbor Police Station for further necessary action, as prescribed. That was deemed appropriate in accordance with the relevant procedures,” the Navy said. In a statement, it said there was “no security lapse” at the gate.

Police registered an arrest and said that during preliminary interrogation, the juvenile said that he wanted to join the armed forces.
