Now that 2023 is around the corner, Carl Pei has finally broken silence about a successor to the Nothing phone (1), and it’s not coming anytime soon.
It is fair to say that the Nothing Phone (1) was the most anticipated phone launch of the year earlier this year in July due to its transparent back design, LED Glyph interface and premium build quality making waves.
Now that 2023 is approaching, tech enthusiasts have been quite vocal about asking Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, about a successor to the Nothing Phone (1). Pei reveals at the end that the next iteration won’t be coming out anytime soon.

Carl Pei has been vocal about the need to move the Nothing phone (1) towards a more refined software experience. The company also delayed Android 13 in favor of patching out bugs from the existing Android 12 build. And, on Twitter, Pei has frequently posted questions such as “What are your favorite and least favorite aspects of Android?” In the past, Pei, being the co-founder of OnePlus, assisted OnePlus in switching from Cyanogen Mod to OxygenOS. The Nothing Phone (1) is currently backed by a three-year promise for Android OS updates and a four-year guarantee for security updates, and up to this point, the company has delivered bug fixes promptly.
