India will be captained by Rohit Sharma at the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy.

India recently revealed their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in June with Rohit Sharma set to led at the tournament for the second time in his career. Rohit returned to India’s T20I setup earlier this year in January leading against Afghanistan in a three-match series after not playing a single match in the format at international level since the team’s semi-final exit at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Hardik Pandya, who was assumed to be the de facto skipper of the T20I side, has been assigned vice-captaincy duties for the world cup set to be co-hosted by the USA and the Caribbean islands starting June 1.

Both Rohit and Pandya represent five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, a team that has been eliminated from the playoffs race this season.

And former India cricketer Hemang Badani says that the two leaders of the international team not making it to the playoffs has left him ‘very worried’ of their chances at the world cup.

“Indian captain and vice captain out of the IPL,” Badani posted on X (formerly Twitter). “What does that speak of our quality depth and our chances. Trolls stay away.. If you have something objective to add then pls do. I for one am very worried about team India!”
