Call Drop: Clear Deck for More Towers, DC Says | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: A meeting of the District Level Telecom Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon on Friday to ensure better telecommunication experience in the city and to solve the problems of service providers.
Expressing concern over the growing problem of call drops or non-receipt of calls in the city, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the pending applications for new towers proposed by telecom companies to accommodate the increased demand. He directed all departmental officers to remove all bottlenecks and facilitate expansion of telecom infrastructure.
“The deadline for disposal of an application for a new telecom tower has been fixed under 45 days” Right to Service Act,” said the Deputy Commissioner Yash Garg,
“Under the Act, it is the responsibility of the departmental officer to clear the pending applications within the stipulated time period. If the application formalities are lacking, give reasons, but do not keep them pending for too long,” he told the officials.
DC further instructions mcg commissioner Darshan Yadav By forming a team, preparing a list of pending applications and ensuring their disposal at the earliest.
Earlier this month, TOI had reported that telecom companies were seeing over 50% increase in data usage in select regions due to work-from-home and online education due to the third wave led by Omicron.
“There is no problem with such services. It is just that there has been a sudden over 50% increase in data usage in some residential areas,” said an industry insider. “Due to the third wave, offices and schools are closed and traffic has increased in some areas now. Where we have enough towers there is no problem. However, some areas where we are struggling to install more towers are facing network issues.
Telecom operators’ representatives told TOI that they had apprised the district administration of the challenges they were facing in scaling up their infrastructure to accommodate the rising demand.
“Besides delaying clearances from several government departments, RWAs act as pressure bodies and hamper our efforts to increase the number of towers. There is a misconception that the radiation emitted from these towers has an adverse effect on health, ”said a representative of a telecom giant. In today’s meeting, the administration acknowledged the problem and asked the officials to remove the misinformation that hinders the delivery of better telecom services.
