Calcutta University will take final call on mode of examination on June 3, students demand online examination

Conflict between students and teachers Calcutta University May end soon as university officials are expected to take a final decision on the exam after a meeting on June 3.

The university had held a meeting with the heads of 155 colleges under the University of Calcutta. Most of the principals who attended the meeting were in favor of taking the exam in offline mode. University officials also held meetings with the undergraduate level Board of Studies and the postgraduate level Board of Studies. He also voted in favor of offline examination.

However, students have been demanding an online test claiming that colleges have taught only half the syllabus. The students also claim that it is unfair to conduct offline exams for online classes.

Some universities were also in favor of online exams. For example, Vidyasagar University was inclined towards online examinations, however, Rabindranath Bharati University wants offline examinations. Several universities, including Jadavpur, have stuck to their decision to take the exam offline. The latest meeting was inconclusive with mixed views. The next meeting between university officials is expected on June 3. It called for the third and final meeting on the matter after which a final decision on the same would be taken.

When college and university officials were meeting inside the College Street campus, students from different colleges joined the protests at two gates of the university.

Shubhajit Samant, a college student in south Kolkata, said students are mainly coming together through WhatsApp groups. He also claimed that since most of the universities conduct online examinations, conducting offline examinations for CU students will give them unequal opportunities and may be disadvantageous for them while applying for higher educational institutions as offline examinations are difficult. A large section of the students are protesting in the online mode as well. with Hashtags like #wewantonlineexamsSeveral students tagged state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other education department officials, demanding an online test instead of an offline one.
