Calcutta HC orders DNA test on post-poll violence victim Abhijit Sarkar in Bengal

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered a DNA test on the body of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar as his brother Biswajit Sarkar could not identify it due to alleged deformity.

On July 2, the Calcutta High Court ordered a second autopsy of the body of BJP activist Abhijit Sarkar, who was allegedly strangled to death by a mob in Narkeldanga, Kolkata, on May 2, the day assembly election results were declared. were done. The body was being kept safe in the RG hospital.

According to senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, Biswajit has agreed to undergo DNA test on the body. “He should know whether the body is of his brother or not,” Jethmalani said.

The samples are to be collected at the Command Hospital and sent to CFSL Kolkata, after which the test report has to be submitted to the High Court within 7 days.

Advocate General Kishor Dutta said, “The brother, mother and family of the deceased Abhijit Sarkar are not helping in the investigation. Called, e-mailed five times for confidential statement, no one answered.

According to the Calcutta High Court, if the DNA sample of the deceased matches that of Sarkar’s brother, the matter will be resolved. Additional Solicitor General Dastur said an autopsy has been conducted and the report would be submitted to the court in a sealed cover. Next verdict will be pronounced on July 15 at 11 am

The Calcutta High Court had earlier ordered that the second autopsy should be done at the command hospital, with the presence of an NHRC representative, and not in a state government hospital.
