All the bypolls will be held along with the assembly elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland.

The bypoll to the Lakshadweep Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant following the disqualification of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) member Mohd Faizal following his conviction in a criminal case, will be held on February 27 along with bypolls to six assembly seats. five states.

All the bypolls will be held along with the assembly elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland.

The counting of votes will take place on March 2, the day the results of the Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland assembly elections are due.

Tripura assembly elections will be held on February 16.

While two bypolls will be held in Maharashtra (Kasba Peth and Chinchwad seats), one bypoll each will be held in Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Election Commission (EC) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Lumla seat in Arunachal Pradesh fell vacant due to the demise of sitting MLA Jambe Tashi. Jharkhand’s Ramgarh seat fell vacant after Mamta Devi’s disqualification.

The Erode (East) seat in Tamil Nadu fell vacant following the demise of sitting MLA E Thirumahan Evra. The Sagardighi assembly seat of West Bengal fell vacant due to the demise of sitting MLA Subrata Saha.

The death of Santokh Singh, the Congress MP from Jalandhar, was not informed by the Lok Sabha Secretariat to the Election Commission. Therefore, the bypoll for the parliamentary seat was not announced on Wednesday, sources said later.

A vacancy is notified by the respective legislative bodies – Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, State Assemblies and Legislative Councils – following which the Election Commission calls for bye-elections.

Notification for all bye-elections will be issued on January 31.
