Popular instant messaging app Telegram is being banned in Brazil for providing false information. While the reason seems valid, the manner in which the WhatsApp rival has been suspended in the country is nothing short of funny. According to a statement by Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov, the company did not see the emails of the Supreme Court of Brazil because his company was investigating wrong email addresses. Yes, you heard that right. The company was investigating the wrong email address and therefore Telegram was not able to address the issues raised by the Supreme Court of Brazil.
Durov said in his statement that it seems that Wire There was a problem with the email between the company’s telegram.org corporate address and the Brazilian Supreme Court. He explained that his company asked the court to send future eviction requests “to a dedicated email address.” However, the court did not do so and continued to use the old general-purpose email addresses and Telegram recalled them. Now, the instant messaging app is getting banned in the South American nation.

Telegram has said it has now received those emails and is trying to rectify the situation with the court. There is little political context surrounding the ban. There are allegations that the instant messaging app helps spread misinformation in Brazil.
“We complied with an earlier court ruling in late February and responded with a suggestion to send future removal requests to a dedicated email address. Unfortunately, our response may have been lost, as the Court used an old general-purpose email address in further attempts to reach us. As a result, we missed his decision in early March which included a follow-up removal request. Fortunately, we have now traced it and processed it, giving another report to the Court today,” the company’s CEO said.
