The budget session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin from Monday with Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s speech at 2 pm.
The Governor will be received by Speaker of the Assembly and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with whom he is engaged in a war of words.
Dhankhar met Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee at the Raj Bhavan, asking him to show his speech live during the session. The Governor had, among other things, invited the Speaker to discuss the live coverage of his address in the House on Monday, complaining that it had been ‘blacked out’ on earlier occasions. “In view of the unhygienic conditions during the earlier such addresses in the Assembly, including the ‘black out’ of the ‘live coverage’ of the speech, I find it expedient to hold talks with the Hon’ble Speaker so that the sanctity of the proceedings is maintained and that of the Governor. The dignity of the office is not compromised,” Dhankhar wrote to Biman Banerjee.
Dhankhar wrote in a tweet, “There was an hour-long conversation between the Governor and the Speaker of the Assembly at Raj Bhavan today regarding the upcoming assembly session.” The decision to broadcast the speech live will be taken on Monday.
Dhankhar on Sunday wrote to Mamata Banerjee alleging that she was responsible for a “dialogue standoff” between two top constitutional functionaries of the state.

It has become expedient to place the sustained and sustained outreach efforts by the Governor in the public domain to catalyze dialogue with the Chief Minister,” he wrote. All party meeting has been called at 12 noon. After that there is a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee at 1 pm in which the duration of the assembly session will be decided along with the proposed bills.
