Buddha Purnima 2023: History
Buddha Purnima has a rich history dating back 2,500 years. Lord Buddha is believed to have been born in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, around 563 BCE. He was born in a royal family and was named Siddhartha Gautama. At the age of 29, he gave up his luxurious life and set out on a spiritual quest to find the truth about life and suffering. After six years of intense meditation and spiritual practice, he attained enlightenment under a Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. He spent the rest of his life teaching the way of knowledge.
