The plea filed through advocates Mohit Rao and Deepak Nagar is to be heard by a single-judge bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma on Friday. Kavitha in her petition also alleges that there have been attempts to drag her into the Delhi liquor policy scandal by the members of the ruling party at the Centre

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha has knocked on the doors of the Delhi High Court, seeking bail in the money laundering case pertaining to the scrapped excise policy of the national capital.

The plea filed through advocates Mohit Rao and Deepak Nagar is to be heard by a single-judge bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma on Friday.

The petition says that Kavitha is a mother of two children, one of them a minor presently under shock and undergoing medical supervision.

Kavitha in her fresh bail plea alleges that there have been attempts to drag her into the scandal by the members of the ruling party at the Centre.

“….members of the ruling party, completely motivated by political reasons alone, attempted to drag the Petitioner into the scandal, which scandal has been created and is being nurtured by them,” the plea says. “The members of the ruling party started making wild and incorrect allegations against the Petitioner qua her alleged involvement in the Delhi Excise Policy.”

She further accuses the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of selectively leaking information to put her in “public duress”.

The plea also states that Kavitha had been diagnosed with hypertension and since she’s a woman, she is also exempted under the stringent conditions for bail under Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

A Delhi court on Monday turned down Kavitha’s bail pleas in both the cases registered by probe agencies Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to the Delhi liquor policy scandal.

The BRS leader was arrested by the central probe agency from her Banjara Hills residence on March 15 amid protests by party supporters. The CBI later arrested her on April 11.

She has been accused of being a key member of the “South Group”, which allegedly paid the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi kickbacks of Rs 100 crore in return for a big share of liquor licenses in the national capital.
