British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and wife Carrie Johnson on Thursday announced the birth of a healthy baby girl, their second child born at 10 Downing Street in London.
“The Prime Minister and Mrs Johnson are pleased to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl earlier today (Thursday) at a London hospital,” a spokesman for the couple said in a statement.
“Both mother and daughter are doing very well. Couple splendid NHS. would like to thank [National Health Service] The maternity team for all their care and support,” said the spokesperson.
The child is the 57-year-old prime minister’s seventh child since the couple’s birth to Wilfred Johnson in April last year. Her new sibling was announced in an Instagram post in July, when Carrie Johnson also revealed she had a miscarriage earlier this year.
The post read: “Our rainbow baby is expected this Christmas. At the beginning of the year, I had a miscarriage, which broke my heart. I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I have also felt like a bag of nerves.
“Fertility issues can be really difficult for many people, especially when on a platform like Instagram it can seem like everything is always going well. I found a real comfort in hearing from others who had experienced loss, so I hope sharing this can help others as well. Death.
Johnson previously tied the knot with Carrie Symonds, 33, in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in May this year. This was Johnson’s third marriage after his divorce from former Indian-origin wife Marina Wheeler, with whom he has four children.
He also has a child born in 2009 as a result of an affair with art consultant Helen McIntyre. He had no children from his first wife, Allegra Mostyn-Owen.
