London: UK Queen Elizabeth Buckingham Palace on Tuesday slammed the UN climate summit, saying it withdrew from the COP26 summit in Glasgow next week after doctors advised rest.
A palace source said the decision not to attend was taken as a “sensible precaution” and that everyone had been told in advance. The source added that the Queen remains in good spirits and wants COP26 to be successful.
Buckingham Palace said: “Following advice to rest, the Queen is doing light duty at Windsor Castle.”
“Her Majesty has decided with regret that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend COP26’s evening reception on Monday, 1 November.”
The 95-year-old queen, the world’s oldest and longest-reigning woman, spent an overnight stay in hospital last Wednesday after undergoing “preliminary screening” for an unspecified but Covid-19 related illness.
They made their first official engagement since being in hospital on Tuesday with two virtual spectators from South Korea and Switzerland welcoming new ambassadors to Britain.
