The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday that ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over Mumbai, Konkan and western Maharashtra region in the next three-four days.

The low pressure area developed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression and move north-northwestwards during the next few days. The official said that there is a possibility of more heavy rains in western Maharashtra, Konkan and Mumbai region from Sunday.

IMD has issued an ‘orange’; Alert has been issued for Raigad, Pune, Ratnagiri, Satara and Kolhapur while Yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Wardha, Palghar and Sindhudurg districts. An orange alert means local authorities should be prepared in case the rain intensifies. Yellow alert indicates a low probability of heavy rain.

Rest of Maharashtra is likely to receive light to moderate rains in the next 3-4 days. The IMD said that parts of North Maharashtra as well as East Vidarbha and Marathwada may receive more rains on Monday.
