breaking | Double Covid jab ‘protects’ against delta variants, says European Medicines Agency

Hague: The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Thursday that data shows that two doses of the Kovid vaccine provide protection against the rapidly spreading delta version of the coronavirus.

“Emerging data from real-world evidence is showing that two doses of vaccines are protective against the delta variant,” said Marco Cavallari, EMA’s head of vaccine strategy.

Cavallari, who was speaking at a news conference, stressed that the Amsterdam-based watchdog is “aware of the concerns caused by the rapid spread of the delta variant”.

“Right now it appears that the four EU-approved vaccines protect against all strains that have spread to Europe, including the delta version,” AFP said.

The assessment came as the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the variant first seen in India could spark a new wave of cases in Europe.

Four vaccines are currently approved for use in the EU, including Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer/BioNtech.
