new Delhi: A bomb blast has been reported in a mosque during Friday prayers in Peshawar, Pakistan.

“At least 30 people have been killed and 56 injured in an explosion at a mosque in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan,” news agency AFP was quoted as saying by the hospital.

A rescue official said the blast took place at the Jamia Masjid in Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazar area when the worshipers were offering Friday prayers.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast.

According to Dawn, Lady Reading’s media manager Aseem Khan said that 30 bodies have been brought to the hospital so far.

Officials said the condition of 10 injured is stated to be critical.

Peshawar Ejaz Ahsan, a police officer in the capital city, said the two attackers tried to enter the mosque and opened fire on the policemen guarding the guard. He said one policeman was killed while the other was seriously injured.

He said the blast took place after the firing incident.
