Brave’s Summarizer feature is designed to provide concise answers to user questions at the top of its results pages, and it can process multiple sources of information across the web.

AI-powered generative chatbots continue to be discussed in the big tech world, so OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to be a hot topic of discussion. Google and Microsoft are also stepping up their AI ambitions with their new offerings—Bing and Bard. Despite the AI industry still being in its early stages, several new players have already entered the fray. A small company compared to Google and Microsoft, Brave Software Inc. has also jumped on the bandwagon with the introduction of a new AI model in its browser and search engine.

The Summary feature is designed to provide concise answers to user questions at the top of its results pages. The feature is reminiscent of other AI-powered search engines like You.com and Neeva, which also generate short explanations with web links in response to user queries.

“Unlike purely generative AI models, which are prone to making unfounded claims, we have trained our Large Language Model (LLM) to process the many sources of information present on the web. This produces more concise, accurate answers, expressed in coherent language,” Brave’s press release said.

It added, “Furthermore, the original sources of data are cited at all times through links. This maintains the true quality of the information, and helps users assess the credibility of the sources, which Both are essential to reduce the authority biases of the larger language model.

The Brave Summarizer feature is now available to all desktop and mobile users of Brave Search, but those who want to opt-out of the feature can do so by going to Brave Settings.

Brave acknowledges that development of the Brave Search Summarizer began with recent progress following the release of Microsoft-backed ChatGPT in December.

The company plans to explore the Large Language Model (LLM) not only in the search domain but also in the Brave browser. This is where the assistant-like capabilities of LLM are expected to bring in truly innovative features.
