The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday claimed to have solved the rape and murder case of a Class 12 student in Meerut within 48 hours of the incident. The arrested youth has been identified as Mangal Pandey.
Meerut Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Bhatnagar said, “Mangal Pandey first raped the student and then made her drink cold drinks with sulfas tablets. The girl had died due to multiple organ damage due to sharp cold drink.
The SP further said that the girl had gone to school with her father on October 6 to appear for the mid-term exams. When the girl did not return even after four hours, the family members started searching for her.
“The victim returned home and complained of severe abdominal pain. He was taken to the nearest medical hospital, but died during treatment,” said SP Vineet Bhatnagar.
Doctors at the hospitals said that the girl died after several organs were damaged due to the consumption of the poisonous substance. Meerut SP said, “As per the autopsy report, the girl had consumed sulphas poison.”
During investigation, a classmate of the victim told the police that she was last seen with her boyfriend after school. “Her classmates told us that she has known the boy for the past three years and she wants to marry the boy after completing 12th standard,” Bhatnagar said.
The Meerut SP said, “The youth was taken into custody, and during interrogation he confessed to raping and spitting the victim’s cold drink with sulfas tablets.”
According to the SP, Mangal Pandey forced the girl to take the girl with him to a hotel in Mohanpuri, where he raped her. “During interrogation, he told us that he was planning to kill the girl for the past few days as she was pressurizing her for marriage.”
