‘Both are going to implement for us in the end’: Rahul Dravid on role-playing for India’s batting stars

Dinesh Karthik opens up a lot of options for going into T20s as an “enforcer” World cup, say India Head coach Rahul Dravid, who wants to identify a core group of 18-20 players by the end of the England series. For Dravid, to be a part of the World T20 set-up, mere “knocking on the door” will not suffice.

“Whoever wants to claim that squad of 15 has to ‘bang it down.’ It opens up many more options for us going forward.

The previous match was canceled due to rain. Dravid, while talking about Tamil Nadu’s Dasher’s 27, said, “He was picked for performing exceptionally well for the last two or three years (in the IPL) and thus indicated that it The game in Rajkot came almost simultaneously.” -Ball-55 which was instrumental in restoring parity in the series in India.

For Dravid, Karthik and Hardik Pandya are the two enforcers in the death overs.

“We needed that big performance in the last five overs to level up and he and Hardik batted really well. These two are motivators for us in the end,” Dravid explained on what the team management’s role is for Karthik.

The coach had no hesitation in admitting that Karthik had made a good case for going into the T20 World Cup. “I was telling people that you have to start knocking on the door and not just knock on the door and thus the (Rajkot half-century) innings means he is knocking very hard,” he said.

Want to get the hang of the core as fast as possible

Dravid doesn’t want to put any time limit, but by the end of England T20Is, he wants to have a fair idea about the 18 to 20 players ahead of the World Cup in Australia.

India and England will meet in a one-sided Test followed by six white-ball matches (7-17 July).

“As you get closer and closer to the event, you want to strengthen your final squad or, if not, obviously there will be some contingencies in the kind of world you live in today. Obviously you Want to take only 15 to the World Cup but need to identify the top 18 to 20 players.

“Obviously there can be weird changes due to injury and things out of your control, but we are going to start building up that team as soon as possible.

“Whether it will be in the next series (Ireland) or the series after that (England) is hard to say, but we definitely want to do it as soon as possible,” he revealed. Coach defends under-fire Gaikwad and Iyer

If there were two people who blew up their chances of being a part of the World T20 core team, it is Ruturaj Gaikwad (96 runs in 5 matches) and Shreyas Iyer (94 runs in 5 matches). Gaikwad has been looking utterly bad in international cricket and Iyer’s struggle against quality fast bowling is now well documented.

The head coach, however, decided to be a little more sympathetic to both, even though one will not play against Ireland (Iyer is in the Test squad) and the other is unlikely to get any further starts. He said, ‘We are not going to react like this to people. I don’t like judging people after a series or a match.

Shreyas showed a lot of intent on some tough wickets, played really positive for us. Ruturaj shows in an innings what he has got. We are not disappointed with anyone.

Cricket brand attacked

“As a group, we wanted to play a certain brand of cricket and we were trying to play a slightly more positive and aggressive brand of cricket from the beginning and we knew that when you try and do that, So it doesn’t always close. , But we are definitely clear about what kind of cricket we want to play.”

Big Bash figures also need to be considered before World T20

Dravid is known to rely heavily on data analysis and would love to gather information on playing conditions and opposition ahead of the tournament. “A lot of our boys have played in Australia and we will definitely talk to them about what kind of strategy and tactics work,” he said.

“In terms of data and analysis, we will look at all the games that are played in Australia and obviously they are international games, there is Big Bash and I mean we will do all our research and background stuff that would have happened in terms of analysis. Huh.

“And of course, we don’t have a series against them (Australia in Australia), so we can’t change that. I think we have to take two weeks out before the World Cup and make the best use of it.

It will be a different England Test team

Rahul Dravid loved playing Test cricket in England and he loves coaching the Test team. He believes that the only ‘fifth Test’ against the hosts will be a different proposition than last year when the team under Virat Kohli India took a 2-1 lead before Covid-19 cases in the camp forced the final game to be called off.

“England are playing well at the moment and it’s going to be a little different from last year when England were probably a bit on the backfoot. He has played some good games and our team is also very good.

“Love playing Test cricket, love watching it and coaching in Test cricket and so you know, looking forward to it,” he concluded.
