Boston University police are investigating two incidents, one of which a man forced his way into a student’s apartment and sexually assaulted the victim, officials said. The student was able to fight off the assailant, who was unknown to the victim and call the police.The suspect is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s and having dark skin and a thin build. He was carrying a black backpack at the time, police said.A few minutes later, three Boston University students who were walking together reported that they were aggressively followed and offered a ride by an unknown person. The person followed them from Granby Street to South Campus, where they used an emergency call box to notify the police. The suspect was described as a man with dark skin, who was driving a newer-model Ford pickup truck that was silver or grey. Multiple sources told 5 Investigates’ Kathy Curran that investigators are eyeing Edwin Fantauzzi, 33, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, as a suspect in the Boston University incidents.Boston police said arrest warrants have been issued for Fantauzzi in connection with a rape that was reported at about 6:30 am Saturday in the area of Harrison Avenue.Police are investigating whether the incidents are related. They released a photo of the truck in question and asked anyone with information to call the police at 617-353-2121. Boston University police have yet to identify Fantauzzi as a suspect. Community members wishing to assist this investigation anonymously can do so by texting the word ‘BU’ to TIP411 (847911). The BUPD will protect the identities of all those who wish to assist this investigation in an anonymous manner.
