India head coach Rahul Dravid is usually calm but doesn’t mind letting his emotions out in the face of a crisis.

Mohammed Siraj gave India The breakthrough he was looking for came when he dismissed Usman Khawaja for 1 in the first Test at Nagpur. That too after his very first delivery. Australia had won the toss and opted to bat first and things were looking fine in the first over of the day before Siraj was dismissed. It was a brilliant delivery that left the southpaw tugging on the toe at the last minute. However, with the Indian fielders not convinced, captain Rohit Sharma consulted Test debutant KS Bharath, who favored DRS. So it was taken and the call was upheld as the umpire gave the marching order to Khawaja.

Later, Mohammed Shami also dismissed the second opener David Warner. Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the decision seemed to have backfired as both the openers were dismissed with the score reading 2/2. The delivery to Warner was unplayable, with the ball turning inside out just before hitting Warner’s middle stump.

In T20I cricket, India’s charismatic middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav made his Test debut alongside wicket-keeper KS Bharath as Cummins-led Australia handed the baggy green to spinner Todd Murphy.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri handed over the Indian cap, while Australia spinner and playing XI member Nathan Lyon presented a baggy green to Murphy.

In a first, the BCCI invited both Suryakumar and Bharath’s families to come inside the ground and watch the Test cap presentation ceremony.

Head coach Rahul Dravid congratulated and shook hands with the family members of both the Indian players.

It may be recalled that Bharath donned the gloves for India in place of Wriddhiman Saha on the third day of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Kanpur in 2021, after the Bengal glovesman suffered a stiff neck.
