Bopanna, AITA controversy over ‘non-entry’ in Tokyo Olympics Tennis News – Times of India

Pune: Controversy can’t go away from Indian tennis when it comes to the Olympics.
Even when the players have not come to the event.
Rohan Bopanna alleged on Monday All India Tennis Association (AITA) misled “the players, the government, the media and everyone else” by saying that he and Sumit Nagal had a “good chance” of making the Olympic cut instead of Bopanna-Divij Sharan’s original nomination.
“The ITF has never accepted an entry for Sumit Nagal and me. ITF It was clear that no change was allowed after the nomination deadline (22 June) unless injury/disease. AITA has misled the players, government, media and everyone else by saying that we still have a chance.

Speaking to TOI, Bopanna explained: “After Sumit came in, Mr Dhupar (AITA Honorary Secretary Anil Dhupar) wrote to me saying ‘we have withdrawn our nomination’.
“But unless one of us is hurt, the nomination cannot be changed. In fact, the ITF wrote back to me yesterday saying that ‘we are not able to change the nomination’.
“Any changes should have been made before June 16, the deadline for changing nominations.”
The tweet generated buzz with former and current stars adding to the fire with comments or retweets.
AITA was not happy.
“His statement was most unwelcome,” Dhupar said.
“Before Sumit went inside, they (Bopanna and Sharan) had no chance to enter. We had written to the ITF asking them to withdraw. Divijo And, if the rules allow, change the nomination.
“The ITF wrote back saying it was not possible. That’s all, what did we do wrong?
“With Divij (as partner), he was fifth. With Sumit, he was third. Didn’t we do him a favor by trying to get him two places closer?
“We are trying to pursue his case. He was not qualified by his ranking.
“They don’t know what I wrote to the ITF. They should get their facts before (posting).”
