Boney Kapoor turns 66: A look at ten films he produced

Indian filmmaker Boney Kapoor turned 66 on Thursday. the father of Bollywood Actor Arjun Kapoor and Janhvi KapoorBoney has produced films not only in Bollywood but also in Tollywood. Born into a family that was closely associated with the film industry, Boney began his career in 1980 with Hum Paanch, which was instrumental in establishing cinema legends Mithun Chakraborty and Amrish Puri in Bollywood.

Over the years, Boney has produced some notable films. Let’s take a look at some of them.

Mr. India (1987)

Mr India remains Boney’s most notable film to date. The film marked one of the first science fiction films in the country. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, Mr India starred Anil Kapoor as the lead actor who acquires the ability to make himself invisible. With this power, he was able to fight one of the most iconic villains – Mogambo, played by Amrish.

Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993)

Boney lost a lot of money to produce this film, which did not yield the expected results. Initially, the film was being directed by Shekhar, however, he fell short and the project was handed over to Satish Kaushik. Anil, Sridevi, Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff were in the lead roles in this film. However, it should be noted that Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja was considered to be one of the most expensive Bollywood films ever when it released.

Sirf Tum (1999)

Boney launched his younger brother Sanjay Kapoor with this film. The love story was directed by Agathiyan and starred Priya Gill, Sushmita Sen and Jackie. Sirf Tum was a remake of the 1996 Tamil film Kadhal Kottai.

Pukar (2000)

Pukar was another film produced by Boney in which his younger brother Anil played the lead role. The film also starred Madhuri Dixit, Namrata Shirodkar, Danny Denzongpa and Om Puri. The film won two National Film Awards: the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration and the National Film Award for Best Actor for Anil’s performance.

Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000)

A remake of the Telugu film Pelichesukundam, the film was directed by Sathish and starred Aishwarya Rai and Anil Kapoor in lead roles. Sonali Bendre also played an important role in the film.

Company (2002)

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the film is about gangsters from Mumbai’s underworld and stars Ajay Devgn, Mohanlal, Manisha Koirala, Vivek Oberoi and Antara Mali.

Wanted (2009)

Wanted marks the big comeback of Salman Khan in theatres. The blockbuster hit became the second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2009. The film also starred Ayesha Takia, Vinod Khanna, Prakash Raj and Mehak Chahal. Wanted was directed by Prabhu Deva.

Mother (2017)

Mom marked Boney’s wife Sridevi’s last film. The crime thriller starred Sajal Ali, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Adnan Siddiqui. Sridevi played the protagonist, who is intent on avenging her stepdaughter’s sexual assault.

Nerkonda Paravai (2019)

Boney produced the Tamil language remake of the Hindi film Pink. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film stars Ajith in the lead while actors Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam and Andrea Tariang play three women facing sexual assault.

Lawyer Sahib (2021)

Boney also co-produced the Telugu remake of the 2016 Hindi film Pink, which released this year. The Telugu film directed by Venu Sriram starred Pawan Kalyan, Nivetha Thomas, Anjali, Ananya Nagalla, Prakash Raj and Shruti Haasan in lead roles. Pawan plays a crap lawyer in the film.
