Boney Kapoor reveals how Rekha played a role in Khushi Kapoor’s acting plans.
Boney Kapoor revealed Khushi Kapoor reached out to Rekha and shared her plans of pursuing acting.
Boney Kapoor’s daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor followed the footsteps of their late mother, actress Sridevi into acting. Janhvi made her acting debut in 2018 with Dhadak. Whereas Khushi made her debut in December 2023 with The Archies. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Boney revealed that he had no plans of launching his daughters into acting but they chose the path themselves. He added that while Janhvi shared her career plans with Sridevi, Boney found out about Khushi’s plans through Rekha.
He told us, “Khushi sent her audition (for the college admission) to Rekha, not me. Rekha told me that Khushi also wants to become an actress. Then I took her to New York and she was in New York Film Academy.” Khushi spent a few years in the American acting school before she returned to India and made her acting debut with Zoya Akhtar. For the unversed, Rekha had been close to Sridevi. The actress had recommended Sridevi’s name for many movies in the past. These included Himaatwala and Chandini.
Boney added that when it came to Janhvi, he and Sridevi thought she would grow up to become a doctor. “She never wanted any of the daughters to become actors. She imagined Janhvi and Khushi getting married. Whenever we would attend a wedding, Sridevi and I would draw inspirations from the wedding and think that this is how we would get Janhvi also married. She wished for Janhvi to find a nice boy. We never thought they would grow up to become actresses. We thought Janhvi would become a doctor or something. One day she suddenly came up to Sridevi and said, ‘I want to act,’” Boney recalled.
Janhvi and Khushi have a few movies in the making. Janhvi’s upcoming projects include Devara: Part 1 with Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan, and a film with Ram Charan. Devera marks her debut in Telugu film industry. Meanwhile, Khushi is rumoured to be working on a film with Ibrahim Ali Khan.
