Sridevi and Boney Kapoor secretly got married in 1996.
Boney Kapoor opened up about his secret wedding to Sridevi and said that they got married in Shirdi in 1996.
Boney Kapoor, one of the biggest producers in Bollywood today, hails from a successful clan of actors. Most renowned among them was the late Sridevi, his second wife. In a recent interview, Boney Kapoor opened up about his marriage with the legendary actress and spilt the beans on their secret wedding ceremony in Shirdi in 1996. He also spoke about being honest with his first wife Mona Shourie, with whom he was married from 1983 to 1996.
Talking to The New Indian, Boney Kapoor said that he was still married to his first wife Mona Shourie when he fell in love with Sridevi. He said that he was honest with Mona and let his feelings for Sridevi be known to Mona as well. Boney added that he got married to Sridevi secretly but made the announcement months later after the actress’ pregnancy became apparent.
Boney said, “My marriage to Sri took place in Shirdi, on June 2. That’s when we exchanged vows. We were there, we spent the night there. And it was only in January 1997, when her pregnancy was seen, that we had no choice but to marry publicly. In public, we were married only in January 1997. There are still some scribes who write that Janhvi was conceived before marriage,” he said.
Boney added, “She was my strength, she was my lifeline, and she remains in my thoughts all the time. It is unfortunate that she had to go so soon, when I needed her the most, when I wanted her to see the success of her daughters. I wanted her to see how I’ve done regional films, because it was her idea that I should do regional films. I’m trying to fulfil all her dreams, and I’ll continue to do so.”
In the interview, Boney said that he has always been sincere with everyone around him and was honest with his first wife Mona about his feelings for Sridevi. He said, “I’m not a powerful family man; I’m just a simple family man. A caring, loving son, brother, husband to my wife, father to my children Arjun, Anshula, Janhvi, Khushi. In fact, even with Mona I was absolutely honest. The best way to describe me would be, ‘a simple, honest man who has been sincere to everybody around him’. I’m blessed to get this opportunity to do what I get to do, and I couldn’t have done it without my family members.”
For the unversed, the legendary actress lost her life in Dubai in 2018 and her cause of death was cited as accidental drowning. Her last film was Mom in which she essayed the role of Devki Sabarwal. For her role in this film, she was honoured with the National Film Award for Best Actress. The crime thriller directed by Ravi Udyawar hit the theatres in 2017. The movie also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna and many others.
