Bombay High Court stays magistrate court order summoning Salman Khan in journalist case

Big relief to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan The Bombay High Court had in 2019 stayed the summons against him by the Andheri Magistrate Court in connection with the actor’s alleged misbehavior with a journalist.,

In 2019, the High Court had stayed till May 5 the order of criminal proceedings against Salman Khan and his bodyguard Nawaz Sheikh in a criminal intimidation complaint filed by a journalist.

The High Court has also asked the complainant to file a reply within 4 weeks.

Earlier, the Magistrate Court, in its order, had said that there was an altercation between the actor and the journalist on the day the incident was reported. Following which, the magistrate issued summons against Khan and his bodyguard to appear in person in the court on April 5.

However, Salman did not appear in the magistrate’s court today and Khan challenged the order in the high court.

According to a Bar and Bench report, senior advocate Abad Ponda, appearing for Khan, submitted that he had only asked his bodyguards to stop shooting the journalist. “If there is any prosecution, the same should be issued against my bodyguards as well,” he said. On the date of the incident, the complainant sent a letter to the police station, in which there is no mention of Khan. After that, when the file was filed again in June, his name came up.

The Bombay HC judge stayed the summons order and posted the matter for hearing on May 5, 2022.

Journalist Ashok Pandey had alleged that Salman Khan snatched his mobile phone while cycling on a Mumbai road after some media persons started clicking his pictures in 2019. The actor had allegedly entered into an argument and threatened the journalist.

In his complaint, Ashok Pandey had sought initiation of criminal action against actor Salman Khan and his bodyguard.
