Bomb threat: Fort Lauderdale airport in the US evacuated for security checks; services resume now

People at Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida were asked on Saturday to evacuate two terminals as a precaution after officials received “bomb calls”. Later, the official Twitter account of FFL Airport updated that a security check has been done safely and airport services are slowly returning to normal.

According to a source quoted by Fox News, a passenger allegedly missed his flight and threatened to blow up the place. However, the police did not confirm the details of the incident.

After a thorough security check, FFL Airport notified passengers of the security clearance and advised them to check with their airline for updated flight information.

Several pictures and videos were posted on Twitter where people can be seen exiting the airport premises and waiting for security clearance by the bomb disposal squad and local police officials.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter that an investigation was underway at the airport. “At around 8:49 am, BSO deputies received a notification of the @FLLFlyer bomb threat. As a precaution, deputies have excavated Terminals 2 and 3 and have also closed entry to the airport. Bomb squad of BSO is investigating. Persons headed to the airport are asked to avoid the area,” Broward Sheriff tweeted.

“BSO representatives at @FLLFlyer have clarified everything. Terminals 2 and 3 have been secured and are now open. The deputy has also opened the entry in the airport. Investigation is on,” it said in another tweet.
