bmc: 3,200 Personnel For Bmc Polls | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: As many as 3,200 polling personnel will be deployed for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) election, out of which 800 will be presiding officers for 705 booths with 95 to be kept on standby.
With the State Election Commission ,SEC) announcing the date for election to urban bodies on March 24, all civic bodies, including the BMC, will have new faces as representatives.
Prafulla Kumar Swain, the returning officer for the BMC election, who is also the additional district magistrate, said, “Around 1,600 polling personnel will receive training soon to conduct the BMC poll. The BJB College here will be the dispersal centre, strong room and counting centre. We won’t require any temporary structure for a polling station as we have the buildings.”
Swain said there were some repetition of names in the voter list and they had to be removed. “So, the number of voters came down from 7,27,456 (in the draft list) to 7,25,765 in the final electoral roll. We have begun preparations for filing of nomination papers by the candidates from March 2, two days after the SEC brings out the notification for the election,” he added.
Officials said there would be another round of meeting with political parties to discuss modalities of campaigning, nomination filing and other issues.
