Block Head Elections: 59 candidates are in fray for 23 seats in Prayagraj. Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates filed nomination papers for the post of ‘Block Pramukh’ in 23 and 21 blocks respectively. Prayagraj District in the respective Block Development Offices.
The nomination process started at 11 am and candidates filed nominations till 3 pm. Adequate security arrangements were made in all the 23 block offices concerned and the candidates were asked to strictly follow the COVID-19 protocol. Voting will be held on July 10.
Meanwhile, district officials informed that a total of 60 candidates filed their nominations in 23 blocks and one of them was rejected in Kaudhiara block.
With this, a total of 59 candidates including Meja (3), Urwa (2), Baharia (3), Koraon (3), Jasra (2), Bahadurpur (4), Saidabad (3), Kaudhiyara (2), Karchana (2),Mauaima (2), Dhanupur (2), Kaurihar (4), Soroan (3), Handia (4), Manda (2), Pratappur (2), Phulpur (3), Shankargarh (2), Chaka (2), Holagarh (2), Sashoo(3), Shringverpur (2) and Bhagwatpur (2) are in fray for the post of block pramukh.
SP district spokesperson Dan Bahadur “Madhur” told TOI that the party has fielded candidates for the post of block chief in all 23 blocks. He also claimed that party candidate Indra Nath Mishra will be declared winner from Kaudhiyara block on Friday without election as the BJP candidate failed to get supporters (pro) and proposers (proposal) from the same block.
He also said that only two persons, including Indra Nath Mishra and his close aide Aastha Mishra, have filed their nominations and Aastha Mishra will withdraw her nomination on Friday.
With this, party candidate Indranath Mishra will be declared the winner unopposed. Madhur said that Mishra would be elected block chief for the third time from Kaudhiara block. He was also elected in 1988 and 1995.
Meanwhile, SP district president Yogesh Chandra Yadav said, “If the elections are held in a fair manner, the SP will be victorious in most of the blocks.”
However, he said that a delegation of party leaders also met district officials on Thursday and demanded change of polling booth in Shringverpur block.
Yadav said BJP candidate from Shringverpur block, Ramchandra Fauji, should be put under house arrest on the day of polling as his presence may influence voters.
Meanwhile, BJP candidates have filed their nominations in 21 blocks and left one block for alliance partner Apna Dal(S).
MP (Phulpur) Keshari Devi Patel said the party’s candidates will be successful in all the 21 blocks after the results are declared.
BJP MP (Allahabad) Rita Bahuguna Joshi also blessed all the party candidates for victory in the elections.
BJP’s district spokesperson Pawan Srivastava said the party would win all the 21 block key posts on July 10. All the candidates have discussed strategy with senior party leaders and are focusing only on registering victory.
Regarding the Kaudhiyara nomination issue, Srivastava said that the SP supporters deliberately stopped the proposers and supporters of the candidates and the party leaders would file a case in the same regard.
