Blast at BBQ shop in northwest China kills 31

A gas explosion at a barbecue restaurant in China’s northwestern Ningxia region killed 31 people on Wednesday night, prompting President Xi Jinping to order a tighter security probe, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The blaze in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia region, was caused by a leaking liquefied petroleum gas tank at the restaurant, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.

Xinhua said seven people were still being treated for burns and cuts from broken glass.

Xi asked officials to make every effort to treat the injured and said that safety supervision should be strengthened in key industries and regions, Chinese state television reported.
