Blasphemy-accused Man Lynched by Violent Mob in Pakistan Punjab’s Nankana Sahib

The Punjab CM constituted a three-member committee to probe the mob lynching case and asked it to submit a fact-finding report in 48 hours.

A man arrested on charges of blasphemy was beaten to death by a mob after storming a police station in Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan on Saturday. The man was kept at the Warburton police station, about 80 km from Lahore, on charges of desecration of the holy book.

The Chief Minister of Punjab constituted a three-member committee to investigate the lynching case. The committee will have to submit a fact finding report in 48 hours.

Police identified the man accused of blasphemy as Waris Issa, who was arrested for desecration of the holy book. A police officer said that the mob stripped her naked and beat her to death.

Local residents claimed that the man – who had returned after spending two years in jail – practiced witchcraft by pasting his ex-wife’s picture on holy books. geo news informed of.

Several video clips of the incident also went viral on social media. In a video, a crowd including small children can be seen climbing the large gate of the police station.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also ordered action against those involved. He also questioned why the police failed to stop the mob and directed the Inspector General of Police in Punjab to ensure law and order in the district. “Rule of law must be ensured. This is not the first incident of lynching of a person accused of blasphemy in Punjab. In December 2021, a Sri Lankan man working as a manager in a local factory was lynched by a mob in Sialkot city of Punjab on charges of blasphemy.
