Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Loni Nand Kishore has stirred up a new controversy with his remarks of a complete ban on meat shops. He warned the officials that they would be responsible if meat shops were found operating in his constituency.

“I want to tell the officials that if even a single meat shop is seen in Loni… Loni has Ram Rajya. Will meat shops be allowed in Ram Rajya?” He told the crowd at an event. “People should consume milk and ghee,” he said.

There were many cases of illegal slaughter of animals in Loni before the elections.

The MLA later clarified that he did not mean a complete ban but that no illegal or unlicensed shops would be allowed.

“I am not stopping anyone from eating meat. No shop will be allowed without a license. Those who want to listen to meat can go to Delhi,” he told India TV.

Nand Kishor defeated Madan Bhaiya of Rashtriya Lok Dal and retained Loni seat by a margin of 8,676 votes.
