Howrah: A BJP worker in West Bengal’s Howrah district has filed a police complaint alleging that his mute wife was gang-raped by local Trinamool Congress leaders and workers.
The TMC said it was with the victim’s family and demanded that the culprits be punished.
Police said they arrested two of the five people named in the FIR on Monday. A search operation has also been launched for three others allegedly involved in the incident that took place at her house on Saturday night when her husband and elder son were not present.

Senior BJP leader and party co-in-charge of West Bengal Amit Malviya alleged in a Twitter post that the 34-year-old wife of a BJP worker was brutally gang-raped by TMC workers in Bagnan area of ​​Howrah district. .
He tweeted, “Local police initially refused to register her complaint and wanted to lighten the matter. TMC is using rape as a political tool to silence opponents.”
On the other hand, TMC Howrah District President Pulak Roy said that criminals do not have any caste, religion or ethnicity.
State Public Health Engineering Minister Roy said, “All criminals are punished in our state. We are with the family and we demand that all the culprits be punished.”
Amta’s TMC MLA Sukant Kumar Paul and other party leaders met the victim at the hospital.
The woman, who lived under the jurisdiction of Bagnan police station along with her husband and two sons, had suffered a brain stroke six years ago, after which she lost her speech but could hear.
The victim’s husband, who runs a flex and banner business, said that he had gone to Kolkata on Saturday for some work and could not return.
According to the complaint lodged with the police, that night some people called the woman by her surname and she opened the door. A group of five men barged into the house, assaulted her, tied her up and raped her.
The BJP worker claimed in his complaint that he had dropped his motorcycle at his wife’s feet before leaving the house.
The victim’s younger son, who was in another room at the time of the incident, said on Monday that his elder brother was on night duty on Saturday, and he (elder brother) was the first to notice that his mother was tied up and was there. Cut marks on his body.
The brother-in-law of the victim, who lived next door, said that he did not hear anything.
The victim was first taken to Bangan police station. From there he was taken to a local hospital and later admitted to Uluberia Super Specialty Hospital.
