In Karnataka, the BJP’s concern has increased due to the close proximity of Congress leader Siddaramaiah and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa. Siddaramaiah is turning 75 on the 3rd of next month. On this occasion, supporters in Davangere district are going to organize ‘Siddaramaiah Utsav’, in which BJP leader and former CM BS Yediyurappa will participate.

In fact, Yeddyurappa has been upset with the top leaders of the party since he stepped down from the post of Chief Minister in 2021. He wanted a non-Lingayat leader to succeed him so that the Lingayat vote bank would remain in his favor. The party made Basavaraj Bommai, who hails from the Lingayat community, as the CM. Yedi wanted his son BY Vijayendra to be made Deputy CM.

The central leadership of the BJP hinted at increasing Vijayendra to contest the 2023 elections in a phased manner. Yeddyurappa’s strength can be gauged from the fact that when he left the party in 2013, the BJP was reduced to 40 seats.

Controversy continues in Congress

Karnataka Congress state president DK Shivakumar (left) and Siddaramaiah (right) are going to do different programs at an interval of 12 days. For this, both the leaders have sent an invitation to Rahul Gandhi.

Two months ago, the second leadership of the Karnataka Congress had brought about a reconciliation between Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress state president DK Shivakumar. But, now again there are signs of a fight for supremacy between the two leaders.

While Siddaramaiah is going to do ‘Siddaramaiah Utsav’, Shivakumar has announced to take out the tricolor yatra from August 15. It is said that more than 10 lakh people will gather in this. In both the programs to be held in a span of 12 days, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been invited.

After announcing the tricolor yatra, Shivakumar took a jibe at Siddaramaiah and said that the Congress believes in the leadership of the people and not in the worship of an individual. He was referring to Siddaramaiah as the only leader of Karnataka Congress.

Equations changed after hijab controversy

A controversy erupted in Karnataka in January over girls wearing hijab in a school, after which the Karnataka High Court ordered a ban on hijab in educational institutions.

A controversy erupted in Karnataka in January over girls wearing hijab in a school, after which the Karnataka High Court ordered a ban on hijab in educational institutions.

All was well until the hijab controversy started in Karnataka. The Congress was riding an anti-incumbency wave. Then suddenly the ball went into BJP’s court due to the issue of Hindutva. In such a situation, a confrontation between the top leaders in the Congress can weaken the party. Five-time MP and strong Dalit leader KH Muniyappa is upset with the party leaders after Siddaramaiah’s supporter KR Ramesh Kumar got two of his staunch opponents to join the party.

There are speculations that if his opponents are not expelled, he may join JDS. So far, the Congress-JDS have been face-to-face in this area with Dalit and Vokkaliga influence. On the other hand, the BJP has roped in two powerful former Congress MLAs, while the JDS is already dominating here. This can cause problems for Congress.
