After signing a pre-poll pact with the BJP, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said the Punjab Lok Congress and the BJP will have a general election manifesto for the 2022 assembly elections.

In an informal interaction with media persons at his Siswan farmhouse, Captain Amarinder Singh said that he had shared his party’s manifesto with the BJP leadership and it was expected to be part of a joint manifesto. He said various farmer-related issues formed the core of the manifesto with efforts to diversify crops to help farmers move out of the wheat-paddy cycle, which was straining groundwater reserves.

Describing victory as the only criterion for finalizing seat-sharing with the BJP, he said BJP’s Punjab in-charge Gajendra Singh Shekhawat would be in Chandigarh next week to discuss seat-sharing. He claimed that the sabotage attempts in the state were aimed at disturbing communal harmony by forces from across the border and the ISI was trying to take advantage of it.

He said that there is a threat to peace from Pakistan and sleeper cells of various terrorist groups are active and using the help and support of Inter-Services Intelligence to create unrest in Punjab. “I wonder why the Punjab government was constantly in denial on the issue of security. Long-range drones with higher payload capacity were being used by ISI to push in arms and ammunition and yet they do not believe anything sinister is being played out,” questioned the Capt. .

He said the country has faced a new drone challenge from terror groups. “Drone’s efficiency in terms of distance covered and load carrying is a potential threat to the country as it provides Pakistan with more options for smuggling drugs and weapons into the country,” Capt said.
